I don't know how sturdy this bag will be once it's made. I think what I'll do is lay them out random and overlapping then iron as I go. After I've got this sheet I'll cut a big rectangle and make a bag that way. I don't want a seam, especially at the bottom. I can make the handles from a piece of the overlapped stuff and fuse it all the way around the bag (somehow) so it's seamless and stronger.
I bought some bags at Walmart for fifty cents each, I want to use them as a template. I'm certainly not shopping as much as I used to but when I do it's usually there. The bags are made to fit their bag holders, with loops in all the right places.
I've even got some saved tissue paper that's probably too wrinkled to use in a gift bag. That would add some pretty to all the logos and 'thank you' all over the bags.
OK, only a year late on this reply,, wrinkled tissue paper ?? Iron those wrinkles out, kiddo !! Works great on wraping paper, tissue paper, sewing pattern paper, etc. Do NOT attempt to iron out wrinkles on the body. It will not work, I repeat, DO NOT !! Kaydee, NC
Plastic trash bags. just had a friend who called me and jogged my memory of how I used these things in the cave man era. Take a wire coat hanger, keeping the hook part in place, streatch out the wire to make a hoop, circle or if you are really good a heart shape cut the bags in strips. about 6 inches long, width depends on your willingness to tie. place the strip under the wire, bring the bag ends together and knot the strip to the wire. keep this up until your shape is filled. At the time we were using cheapo sandwich bags.and making white wreaths for Christmas. This time I use the bags and then shoot it with spray paint, glitter, whatever, hang it on the door, outside it is weather proof. brown would work for fall themes . just avoid the logo parts. oh, when you think your hoop is full, push those tied strips back towards one end as hard as you can, and add some more,, the more the fluffier
