out of a spindle, post, or peppermill? If you have would you please post pics?
Got this last week at a yard sale for 50 cents - couldn't resist it as I want to make a prim angel out of something and this looked like a possibility.
However I haven't found anything to use as wings yet. Have a big round finial that may work for the head and some routered plaques DH made for the base. Anyone got any suggestions even if you haven't made one?
I've seen angels made from posts, they used gingerbreads, those quarter round spoked wooden decorating items....one on each side under a cross piece of wood (as wings). I would think anything half-round and decorative placed just under the round head shape you already have should look about right, personally I like the size and shape and wouldn't use a finial for a head.
do you want to stay strictly wood or are you open to other materials?
I'm open to using anything creatively - what ideas do you have burnd?
Shar - I actually do have some fans we got in Spain and one of them might just look good. I had hoped to make it so it could go outside or in so the fan wouldn't work outside. Not planning to "dress" it tho - the one I like is near the bottom of the page on this site www.salvagedtreasure.com/TrashToTreasure.html
Oh the angel in the pic is great!! I have now removed my wooden shakers from the china cabinet to make angels. I will probably forget I have done this and look for them at Thanksgiving and wonder what I did with them. LOL
A thought for the wings. In home improvement stores they have those thin wooden designs that people put on their cupboard doors for decor in various shapes and designs. Perhaps you could find one that would work. I also wondered about the covered wire that comes in such pretty colors now and making loops, etc in your own design. Wire mesh is another idea. Oh no, this will be in my mind all day. Good luck, I know you will find something. Post us a pic when you do, okay?
Thanks for the ideas, my head is spinning! Definitely on the list is a long browsing visit to HD next time we get "out" (of the back of beyond). Although I have to say I am somewhat resistant to buying new. I find it much more fun to get something old and repurpose it. Cheaper too. Cheep! cheep! that's me.
Hope I haven't encouraged you to use something good for these. My peppermill was 50 cents at a yard sale and I wasn't going to use it as we already have a small p.mill that is big enough for us.
For the wings, I would love to use those decorative metal plant hangers. I've been buying them at yard sales for about 25 cents each but of course can't seem to get even a close match in size or design out of the 4 I've bought. Oh, well, there's always next yard sale day!
I may have to change my mind about using this one outside as it greatly increases the possibilities if it doesn't have to be weatherproof. I also have some abaca ribbon which could work and there's also the fabric stiffener liquid which brings more possibilities. Too many ideas!
