and now someone wants me to make her one (the librarian seems to have shown it to any staff who'd hold still long enough) THANK YOU BECKY!! So, yes, they're cheap to make but you know me by now . . . My mountain from a mole hill ;D I make the mess cuz I'm not organized enough to put stuff away and then be able to find it all again. Is $5 too little? and is $10 too much? For $10 it should be more resiliant, so I'll find a stronger seal than the fingernail polish (2part resin) But as me, I can get so caught up in R&D that I never make enough of them to make it worth while.
I've been charging $15, but I've also been using the metal bracelet blanks. For the wood I'd charge at least $10. That Triple Thick or even the Ranger Glossy Accents in only around $5 or $6, gives a thick enough coat with the first application, lasts forever as long as the lids on and you can cover tons of tiles with one jar! I can't find any of those darn wood placemats!! I'm going to check their online site & see what I find. Congrats on your sell, thats exactly what happened to me, one person showed hers off and it snowballed!
I can get for you the placemats so long as the 1 wally world continues to carry them, no problem. Oh Boy!! I get to go to WalMart again ;D ;D Thanks I really want to make sure the coating is going to be durable enough over time. My dd (I bet) but I've found fingernail dents in a couple tiles I didn't use. And that's using the glossy accents. Does your triple thick come in a jar? That's the only kind I've found so far, and I think it's made by Krylon (if not them then some other familiar name). Is that just as strong? You're right. $10 sounds okay since it'll be a custom and unique piece.

10 dollars sounds like a good price...but honestly I think you'd be losing out....on custom orders I'd charge 15....I don't know anyone that wouldn't pay that. THey are beautiful and personal. I want to make one with my kids names....and they would be perfect for her to make. I tried using scrabble tiles but couldn't make the holes in them. GRRRR. I have to find some of those placemats.
Visit my blog...you can view my poetry, paintings, drawings, and art journals (aka altered books)...oh and leave me a comment so I know you were there. ca.360.yahoo.com/wardsha2002
I can buy the rest but who knows if they'll restock them. I know this craft has been going on for several mos. and the styles change pretty often even at walmart. When becky mentioned the problems with making holes I quit looking for the tiles and found the mats easily. And I'm so lazy, I love the holes ;D predrilled.
I would be forever in your debt if you could pick up some placemats! Do you have a paypal account? If not, I can send you a money order (checks have a way of bouncing out of control at my house ) Or if you want to trade, I'm buying a set of 10 of those metal bracelets on ebay. The placemat tiles won't fit on them though, they take 1/2" squares. I was able to find them pretty easy in the wood section of the craft store. The Triple Thick has to "cure" for at least 24 hours but I just checked one that I made two weeks ago and if you push with your nail it scratches. I'm going to try putting more coats of clear polish, I bought Sally Hansens Hard as Nails, will let you know. I did have to push pretty hard though. BTW, Triple Thick is made by Decoart, but the Krylon brand is the same stuff, far as I know. I'd like to try the Ranger brand from the tut and see if it works better. Sharlene brought up a good point about pricing them I hadn't thought of. If you're customizing them with pics I'd go for at least 20, though I'd say it as $19.99, something psychological with people Think about it- You have to get their pics, get 'em into your computer, do all the magic to make them fit and that doesn't even begin to include the PITA amount of effort to apply the gloss stuff! Now I'm all fired up 'cause I've been rippin' myself off!! On the other hand, each one you make gets better, so I'll just think of them as discounted displays ;D I had the same problem with the holes Sharlene. I have this teeny weeny drill bit and for the most part it worked but OMG it was hard!! I'm thinking about getting those really small eyehole screw(think that what they're called). I thought one for each side, attached together with jump rings might work. If you used E6000 on the screw end when screwing it in that should reinforce it?
Those teeny eye hole screws and all would work but be time consuming. (jumpy thoughts here....) looked online but didn't find any of these placemats at wally on line. googled placemats and saw the bamboo ones, pier 1 or BB and Beyond may have them still. I could price them between 10 and 15 but you're all right......15 to 20 for custom work sounds better, also like I'm more confident in the quality of my work. Make sense? No, I don't have paypal......not yet anyhow. I'm looking into that for selling some thing online. Can I have one even if I don't sell on a place like amazon or ebay?? never knew that. And if you can't find the ranger 'inkssentials glossy accents' They have it at my HL. could do a complete package. ;D I got the sally No Chip acrylic top. maybe these gift bracelets have gotten stronger since I made them. who knows.
forever in my debt, huh . . . . . . . .hmmmmm

Ok, maybe not forever, but 'til the near future As long as you have an email address and a bank account you can have a paypal account. I use mine as a saving account. It used to be when you made a payment or received one through them it went automatically into your account. Now when you receive a pmt from someone it stays in your paypal account until you transfer it into your bank account. Still works the same when you make a pmt though, comes directly out of your acct, unless you already have money sittin there. Sheesh, talk about makin' a short story long
I just used Microsoft Word. I measured the tiles and then used the little ruler at the top of the Word page to size my picture. If you don't have Word, you can get a free program online to download. I can't remember them all, but I know I googled and found a bunch.
I get really frustrated with microsoft word, but a friend of mine uses it all the time and makes such unique things. Like this one time she wrote her BF a long poem and put it into his last name, in which each letter was outlined. Matted, framed, and looks like a $200 pro job. any how I save pics from the internet, then when I want to print them I just click the pic, tell it I want to print (on the left) and it opens the print program (printer and scanner wizard). It lets me pick more and then I choose the proof sheet size. (close to perfect size) Some are slightly too small and others too large, but those I print then lay back on my printer and reduce or increase their size. Yes, I end up with a bunch of extra pictures but I figure . . . . . I'll find a use for them, probably on some decoupage project.
The placemats have 143 tiles. that'll make several bracelets. I screwed some up by trying to woodburn, but I can sand them down and try again. And some of them have such nice grain I bought some tiny wood beads and I want to make some natural ones now. I used 7 tiles on 2 of the bracelets.
Is there a monthly fee for a paypal account?
